Know about 9 Types of Rummy

Indian Rummy

Indian Rummy, also known as 13 Card Rummy, utilizes a deck of 13 cards per player. It's believed to have evolved from a blend of Rummy 500 and Gin Rummy. In this version, players aim to form sequences and sets by strategically discarding and picking cards. A wildcard joker is employed, serving as a versatile substitute for any card a player may require.

Indian Rummy offers three popular sub-variations: Pool Rummy, Deals Rummy, and Points Rummy.

Pool Rummy

In 101 Pool Rummy, the objective is to ensure that your opponents accumulate more than 101 points. Conversely, in 201 Pool Rummy, the goal is to have other players amass more than 201 points while keeping your own score below 201.

Points Rummy

Also referred to as 80 Point Rummy, this serves as the most straightforward version and is often favored by beginners. In this format, players can set their own point values, such as ₹100 per point, and play accordingly. At the end of each round, points are calculated based on individual player performances.

Deals Rummy

This version, as implied by its name, involves playing a specific number of deals. Players receive a certain number of chips at the outset, and their rankings are determined by the chips they hold at the conclusion of the final deal.

Gin Rummy

Gin Rummy is a popular variant of the classic Rummy game. It is played with 2-4 players, but differs slightly from 13 Card Rummy & 21 Card Rummy. In Gin Rummy, players are dealt 10 cards each to form sets and sequences.

Contract Rummy

Contract Rummy is another popular Rummy variant based on Gin Rummy, but it comes with a twist. It consists of seven rounds, and in each round, players must collect a specific combination of sequences. The game becomes progressively challenging as the rounds advance.

Canasta

Canasta, that has its origins in Spain, is another popular Rummy variant. It follows the same basic rules as traditional Rummy - but has a twist: Jokers and 2s are considered wild cards.

Rummikubh

Rummikubh is essentially a fusion of Rummy and Mahjong, and is highly popular in Asia and Europe. This game is played with 104 tiles (equivalent to 2 decks of cards) numbered 1-13 - players are dealt 14 tiles each and must form sets and lay down their tiles.

Oklahoma Rummy

Oklahoma Rummy is very similar to Gin Rummy, but with a smaller hand of only 7 cards dealt to each player. Players can use Jokers to create impure sets and sequences in this variant.
